Dr. Chris Frey, CCEE Distinguished Professor, to deliver webinar for U.S. EPA on June 12
Dr. Chris Frey will present findings from his emissions research as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Webinar Series. The webinar series is titled “Emissions Research to Improve Decision-making” and includes four sessions to take place on Mondays during June and July. Frey is part of a panel featured in the kick-off session scheduled for Monday, June 12 from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. eastern standard time. The initial session is focused on automobile emissions which are a familiar source of air pollution to anyone stuck in rush-hour traffic or behind a belching diesel truck. Predicting these emissions requires precise measurements of the many different kinds of pollutants and details about vehicle, traffic activity, and weather. This information enables individuals and local planners to understand impacts of their choices.
Tailpipe emissions from on-road vehicles have negative impacts on the air quality of a region and are influenced by several factors including driver behavior, road characteristics and traffic conditions. Frey will explain the development of a new vehicle emissions modeling approach that helps planners better predict how road network design and traffic control affect emissions.
