Our speakers Tony and Rahul will draw from their combined half century of experience to offer helpful tips for your pursuit of an environmental career. They will give tips on leadership and the steps in getting there from interning and the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam to the PE Exam and a fulfilling career. Particular emphasis will be placed on why you should be a member of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA). We’ll discuss how the local chapter can be more involved with the student chapter and what type of events students might be interested in. Finally, they will invite you to a free webinar in October on “Lessons You Never Learn in the Classroom.” Plenty of time will be allowed for answering your questions directly.

Tony Pendola, PE

Mr. Pendola is the Small Business Ombudsman for NCDEQ and provides onsite, technical, non-regulatory, and confidential assistance to small businesses. He currently serves as Chair for the SBEAP National Steering Committee and Chair for the RTP Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association as well as a board member of its South Atlantic States Section. Before joining the small business program, Mr. Pendola spent two and a half years in the Division of Air Quality’s Permitting Section.  Prior to that, he worked in both small and large environmental consulting companies for more than six years. Mr. Pendola recently won the Governor’s Award of Excellence and is a proud graduate of NC State!

Rahul Thaker, PE

Mr. Thaker has over 27 years of regulatory and consulting experience in air quality, wastewater, solid and hazardous waste, and construction project management. He is a senior environmental engineer, working for the NCDEQ Division of Air Quality. Mr. Taker currently focuses on reviewing and drafting Title V and New Source Review permits for various categories of industrial sources and leads the Division’s Permitting Workgroup. He was formerly the Chair of the South Atlantic State Section of A&WMA and is currently running for a position on the International Board of Directors with Dr. Frey.
