Class of 2025: CCEE Graduates Poised to Tackle Critical Challenges and Lead Innovation

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at NC State University proudly celebrated the graduation of 151 undergraduate students and 36 graduate students from the Class of 2025 in a special departmental ceremony on Friday, May 2, at the McKimmon Center. This momentous occasion recognized the dedication and achievements of students who are now prepared to enter the industry and contribute to the field in tangible ways.

“You are entering a world that urgently needs your skills—whether improving critical infrastructure, protecting communities from natural disasters, or leading the next wave of construction innovation,” said CCEE Department Head Jacqueline MacDonald Gibson, PhD.

Family, friends, faculty, and staff gathered to honor the graduates as they crossed the stage to receive their diplomas. Department leaders commended the graduates for their perseverance and commitment to engineering excellence. Several outstanding students were recognized for their academic achievements, leadership, and service within the department and beyond.

“You are entering a world that urgently needs your skills—whether improving critical infrastructure, protecting communities from natural disasters, or leading the next wave of construction innovation,” said Jacqueline MacDonald Gibson, PhD, Twisdale Family Department Head of CCEE, in her remarks to graduates. “You have proven yourselves through one of the nation’s top engineering programs, and you should feel immense pride in what you have accomplished—and excitement for what lies ahead.”

The ceremony featured a heartfelt student address by Mark Sheppard Brown Jr., who earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Brown reflected on the experiences, challenges, and camaraderie that shaped the Class of 2025, encouraging his fellow graduates to embrace the opportunities ahead and continue making a positive impact through their work.

Graduates also heard an inspiring baccalaureate address from Michael Santowasso (‘88), Associate Vice President and Corporate Site-Civil Discipline Lead at Hazen and Sawyer, who shared his professional journey and offered advice as they embark on their careers.

The celebration continued as the graduates joined their peers from across the university for NC State’s University Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, May 3. Held at Carter-Finley Stadium, this event brought together thousands of students, faculty, and families to commemorate the accomplishments of the university’s newest alumni.

The Class of 2025 leaves NC State’s CCEE program well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience necessary to make a lasting impact in civil, construction, and environmental engineering. As they embark on the next chapter of their journeys—whether entering the workforce, pursuing graduate studies, or engaging in research and innovation—their contributions will help shape the infrastructure and communities of the future.

Congratulations to the NC State CCEE Class of 2025! Go Pack!
