Studying the ‘Yuck Factor’ of Reclaimed Wastewater
Dr. Emily Berglund is working with communications professor Andy Binder to develop a model for how municipalities could invest in treating wastewater and delivering it to homes for non-potable uses. The technology poses very low risk, but its adoption has been slow due to its cost and public attitudes. In their research, Berglund and Binder are studying how risk perception has varied in time and in different regions of the United States.
