Raleigh News & Observer features CCEE’s first woman graduate in “Past Times” section

The first woman graduate of the Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department earned her degree in 1954. Emily Brown Blount was the only woman to graduate that year. In 1960, Blount, who worked four decades for the NC Department of Transportation, was highlighted in Raleigh’s newspaper The News & Observer. Blount was recently featured again in a retrospective section entitled “Past Times.” Currently women make up 23% of the student body in CCEE. Out of a total of 1086 students, including undergraduates and graduate students, 252 are women.
