CCEE Faculty to Receive ACI Whitney Award for Engineering Development

Dr. Sami Rizkalla, Distinguished Professor, Dr. Paul Zia, Professor Emeritus, and Dr. Gregory Lucier, Research Assistant Professor, were awarded the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Charles S. Whitney Award. This award, founded in 1961 in memory of Charles S. Whitney, recognizes outstanding engineering development work that significantly advances the sciences or arts of concrete design or construction through development of general engineering practice or through application in specific noteworthy projects. Drs. Rizkalla, Zia, and Lucier were specifically recognized by the ACI for work that has “led to significant advances in design of precast structures, especially precast members used in parking structures.” They will receive their awards at the ACI Spring 2016 Concrete Convention and Exposition in Milwaukee, WI. Gary Klein of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) was also awarded this medal in conjunction with the NC State researchers.
