NC Safewater & EWC Seminar 11/14 : Vicky Andersen

November 14, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

NC Safewater and EWC are co-hosting a seminar from Ms. Vicky Andersen of Water for People. An abstract and bio are included below. Please join us in Daniels 322 from noon-1pm.

Title: Water For People: Achieving Lasting Access to Water & Sanitation in Developing Countries

Abstract: Water For People is an international nongovernmental organization (NGO) working in nine developing countries to build a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation and no one suffers or dies from a water- or sanitation-related disease. Water For People’s mission is to promote the development of high quality drinking water and sanitation services, accessible to all, and sustained by strong communities, businesses, and governments. By achieving full coverage, Water For People closes the gaps that leave communities vulnerable to outbreaks of diarrheal disease and by systematically strengthening the local institutions that support them, ensures the long-term sustainability of water and sanitation infrastructure, independent of further aid from outside charities. Water For People calls this approach Everyone Forever. As we move forward into 2017 and beyond, we have a new strategic plan that outlines how we will grow our impact to reach more people and will be sharing details of that approach with conference attendees. In addition, we will cover Water For People’s alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and our Agenda For Change, which brings together some of the biggest organizations in the international water and sanitation sector.

Bio: Vicky Andersen joined Water For People in 2012, as an integral member of the organization’s business development team. When she began with Water For People, Vicky brought with her many years of experience with nonprofits focused on human and environmental services. Prior to joining the nonprofit sector, Vicky spent 10 years working in various roles within corporate law with an emphasis on immigration, mergers & acquisition and intellectual property.
As Water For People’s Community Engagement Manager, Vicky supports more than 50 volunteer groups across North America that perform outreach and host fundraisers in their local communities. Vicky is also responsible for maintaining strong relationships between Water For People and sector associations including AWWA, WEF and NAWC. In addition, Vicky manages Water For People’s technical volunteering arm – the World Water Corps, as well as the organization’s donor tours to the field. While Water For People is headquartered out of Denver, Vicky is based in the California Bay Area, where she has spent most of her life. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine.
