Themes: (other relevant themes are welcome)

  1. Economically achieving, long lasting and low-maintenance structures
    1. Cement/concrete options
    2. Reinforcing options
    3. Maintenance – Regionally sensitive needs & challenges
  2. Holistic design approaches for sustainable durability (using a “Systems View” perspective)
  3. Economies of scale – Fostering supply chain security while lowering costs
  4. Enabling the circular economy
  5. Efficacy & Synergy between Cementitious, Stainless-steel, and FRP material solutions:
    1. PLC cement blends, LC3, & ternary blends
    2. Leveraging lower pH & carbonation effects for FRP longevity but is this a concern for corrosion-resistant steel rebar (e.g. galvanized, low-chromium, stainless steel)
    3. Seawater and/or sea sand concrete (e.g. SeaCon)
  6. Leveraging new FHWA-UTC funding and opportunities
  7. UHPC is very resilient, but how can we make it more sustainable?
  8. Post-hazard functionality, repairability, replaceability
