CCEE’s Dr. Detlef Knappe’s PFAS research highlighted in “New York Times” article
Dr. Detlef Knappe, a S. James Ellen Distinguished Professor in the CCEE Department, was recently highlighted in a “New York Times” article for his research on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
The story examines the negative effects PFAS has on communities when not regulated properly, citing how chemicals from a Chemours plant polluted Fayetteville, N.C.’s drinking water: “[Knappe] warned that the drinking water of more than 250,000 people in the region was contaminated with a cocktail of 17 PFAS compounds, including GenX. ‘It is one thing to say it is in the river, it is another thing to say it comes out of your tap.'”
