CCEE Ph.D. candidate wins Deep Foundations Institute scholarship

CCEE Ph.D. candidate Neda Jamaleddin, advised by  Distinguished Professor Mo Gabr, received the John O’Malley Scholarship from the Deep Foundations Institute.

The John O’Malley Scholarship Fund was launched by Keller (formerly) Case Foundation Co. to fund a scholarship in honor of O’Malley, past president and chairman of the company, for his 40 years of exemplary service and leadership to the construction industry.

Jamaleddin said she felt excited to receive the scholarship.

“It was a moment of knowing that my hard work and dedication to my studies are being recognized and supported, which motivates me even further,” she said. “The Deep Foundation Institute is instrumental to my academic and professional growth. It offers a platform to engage with leading experts and access specialized resources, aligning with my focus on innovation and practical solutions in geotechnical engineering.”

Jamaleddin’s research includes conducting numerical studies on innovative mooring and anchoring systems for offshore renewable energy devices, including wind, wave, tidal, and ocean current turbines, under environmental loadings.

“In my research, we aim to enhance their feasibility and reliability, which is essential for the advancement of renewable energy technologies,” she explained. “The scholarship will enable me to allocate more resources and time to this work.”
