Nasrallah won 2nd prize in the poster contest at the 2019 Environmental, Water Resources, and Coastal Engineering Graduate Student Symposium. Nasrallah was named as recipient of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anchorqea.com\/about\/scholarships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2018 Anchor QEA Scholarship<\/a>, which is a scholarship fund to assist graduate students in fields related to water resources, surface and groundwater quality, coastal development, habitat restoration, and contaminated sediment management. Russell was one of six scholarship recipients selected from a group of highly qualified individuals. Applicants were from different universities located across the United States, studying in multiple program areas. His research is focused on developing a system to predict highway impacts from storms, in particular dune erosion and overwash, along NC Highway 12 on the Outer Banks.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Recent Ph.D. Graduates<\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/karanci.wordpress.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ayse Karanci, Ph.D.<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/karanci.wordpress.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/globalchange.ncsu.edu\/secsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/ayse_karanci.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Research Interests:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Coupled human and coastal landform interaction, \u00a0Agent-Based Models for barrier island communities, climate change, sea level rise, dune erosion, numerical modeling of beach response to extreme events.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/lvelasq.wordpress.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liliana Velasquez Montoya, Ph.D.<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lvelasq.wordpress.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46\" src=\"http:\/\/coastalengineering.wordpress.ncsu.edu\/files\/2015\/03\/Liliana.jpg\" alt=\"Liliana\" width=\"198\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Research Interests:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Morphological evolution of tidal inlets, sediment transport, coastal erosion, sea level rise, numerical modeling of beach morphodynamics.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Prospective Students<\/h3>\n<p>There are current research openings with the Natural Hazards Mapping Program for students at the Ph.D. and M.S. levels. Research assistantships in support of ongoing work focusing on coastal engineering response to sea level rise and the resilience of the built environment are available.<\/p>\n<p>We also have a strong collaborative partnership with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/geospatial.ncsu.edu\/osgeorel\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Open Source Geospatial Research and Education Laboratory<\/a>\u00a0directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/meas.sciences.ncsu.edu\/people\/hmitaso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Helena Mitasova<\/a> within the department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) We collaborate extensively and work with students in both departments.
